Valokaamos

Valokaamos is an atmospheric narrative puzzle game set in the eternal darkness of the frozen north. You play as Aurora, a lonely orphan searching for the souls of her parents, and you guide Solaris, a fox spirit fallen from the stars, who is scared!

The Journey

Aurora possesses a unique gift: her voice creates light. By calling out into the void, you must bounce her echoes off frozen trees, rocks, and ruins to reveal the path ahead.

Your goal is to illuminate the Anchor Points hidden in the sky. As you light the points, Solaris gains the strength to paint the Northern Lights, guiding you both through the darkness toward the truth you seek. 

How to Play

Explore the frozen wilderness and use sound to guide your way.

• Movement: Use W, A, S, D, or the Arrow Keys to move Aurora through the deep snow.
• The Voice: Aim using the mouse and Press the Left Mouse Button to call out into the darkness. Your voice creates a glowing echo that bounces off surfaces and objects, illuminating the environment briefly.
• Light the Sky: Aim your echoes to strike hidden Anchor Points above you. Once all points in an area are lit, Solaris will paint the Aurora, revealing the path forward.
• Interact: Press E when near objects in the world (like snowmen or cabins) to hear Aurora's thoughts.

About the Project

Valokaamos was created during the Aurora Game Jam 2025 hosted by Aalto University. This project was developed by students of the REPLAY Erasmus Mundus Masters in Game Design programme.
